Well, at least they tried...

Quick update and then off to cope with life for the rest of the day... my marks are in from the fall term: I got an A in COMP2404 "Programming in C++" (I had hoped for an A+, but I slacked off and didn't complete one of the assignments, but an A is just fine, thank you), and surprisingly I got an A- in PHYS4807 "Computational Physics" (I did better than expected on the exam). I had tried taking the course before but had to drop it due to being overwhelmed with family stuff (nothing dire, just too much going on)... also ROOT sucks farts from dead cows, and that's what we had to use in the course (it is the standard toolkit used by particle physicists, e.g. those working on the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN). My 4th year honours project (PHYS4909) is ongoing until the end of April 2014, but... the ATLAS team at Carleton decided they liked what I had done with the room the project is in (it was a disastrous pigsty before I cleaned it up and put in proper tables and desks and chairs and stuff)... so they are taking it, and I have to move the EUDET Telescope and my own project out of there by the end of next week into, yup, the ill-lit back corner of a disastrous pigsty of a nearby laboratory ;). So ends an era as I started working in that room in 2010 when I joined the CRIPT project... the department chair (who took the room, fyi) had apparently been overheard calling it "Phelonius' Lab" last year even, heh. As a note, I do think it's the right call by the department as it keeps the ATLAS laboratory space contiguous along the hall it's in (which needed to be expanded as part of the ATLAS Small Wheel upgrade construction project that Carleton is working on), so no tears are needed. I am, more than anything, amused by the inner machinations of our relatively small physics department.

But at least we're not these folks... total U.S. box office receipts: $72.00... O_o
