I wish I could do that, but I'm a girl...

Someone commented on the Kittinger video I have posted on YouTube (almost 160,000 views!):
"That's amazing what Joe and Felix did I wish I could do that but I'm a girl"
Sigh...
I don't even know where to start being upset by this (presuming it's a serious comment and not someone trolling... I have treated it as a serious comment). I made the following response:
Um... do you mean because you are too young, or because you are female? If young, space travel for us regular folk is coming (e.g. Virgin Galactic spaceships and there's talk of space jumps too). Prices will come down eventually, so anyone will be able to afford spaceflight once in their life. If it's because you're female, I don't buy it. I have a painting of Valentina Tereshkova in my hallway that says different! A gender does not and cannot prevent you from doing great things. Dare to dream!
The 500 character limit (and inability to post links) definitely limits what can be said, but I hope I captured the spirit of what I was trying to say. And yes, I do have an original painting of Tereshkova in my hallway thanks to my most excellent friend Sonya!
It just didn't seem like enough (I'm wordy, especially when my buttons are pushed). That also seemed somewhat abstract (word limits are tough), so I also replied (their profile says they are in the USA):
On a more budget-friendly note, get started, go fly a plane! There are over 3500 places in the USA where you can take an introductory flying lesson. Costs are usually under $100. You will have a briefing, and then take off and fly an aircraft with an instructor (the instructor will land, that's the tough part, heh, anyone can fly). Google "Let's Go Flying!" (the AOPA web site) to find a place that offers them. If you are 8 to 17 years old, check out the EAA Young Eagles (free flights).
FYI, I would recommend an introductory flight to anyone and everyone. Even if disabilities prevent someone from being a licenced pilot, it doesn't prevent 99.99999% of folks from at least giving it a try or just going flying with an instructor.
Oh, and speaking of doing amazing things... here is the latest in my collection of "superhuman" videos... wow, kalimba can sounds like that???
