An open letter to the New Democratic Party of Canada:

Whose bonehead idea was it to use this issue to focus the NDP on? There are real problems in Canada that need a strong voice, the Senate problems are a side show that the Conservatives couldn't be happier that you're performing in. Not only is it a constitutional issue that opens a divisive can of worms, but abolishing it will do nothing to help the workers and ordinary folk of this country (maybe save us a few pennies, but there are much bigger targets in terms of waste... just look to the DND fiascoes during the reign of the current government). Furthermore, the absolute last thing this country needs is one less check on the dictatorial powers of the Prime Minister's Office. Rather than abolishing the Senate (a suicidal move for the future of Canada), the Senate needs to be reformed to provide a counterbalance to the unprecedented power available to one person (the Prime Minister if you were wondering who). Seriously though, this is a non-issue in the bigger scheme of things. Where is the opposition? Where is the NDP? Where is the conscience of Canada?

Two Years Later, Has the NDP's Orange Wave Receded?

You had lost my lifelong vote earlier with a comment made by Charlie Angus about the Brazeau case that demeaned the suffering of women in situations of domestic violence ("I really don't want to get into anything on the domestic abuse situation or whether it's true or not. I felt it unfortunate that the Conservatives are actually hiding behind that. The bigger issue for us is accountability. There's been allegations of him ripping off the taxpayer. There's been allegations of tax fraud," Angus said.). And now you are on a mission to turn the position of Prime Minister into that of an unchecked regent (not that it isn't already, but that is why we need a smarter approach than "abolish the senate"). There is more going on in Canada than what you can see out of the windows of your Parliamentary office. I think you will find that your latest plan and your hyper-focus on Mulclair and a few other MPs, rather than grooming and displaying all the talent that's available to you (hmmm... shades of being a Conservative backbencher, how is the NDP going to be any different if elected?), is going to backfire in a profound and devastating way come next election.
